Giant Bus-sized Reinforced Concrete Beams Poured at W/Element Hotel


Construction of the W/Element Hotel in Philadelphia, PA reached a significant milestone in late June with the installation of four school bus-sized reinforced concrete transfer beams. The 9th floor beams, three of which weigh over half a million pounds each, will create the largest column free ballroom in Philadelphia on the floor directly above. Completion of the 9th floor structural system marks the end of largely atypical floors below, which should allow for the pace of construction on typical floors above to increase.
