Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Center

Location: Lancaster, PA
Architect: Ballinger

O'Donnell & Naccarato is providing structural engineering services for the Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Center, Lancaster General Health’s 80,000 SF healthcare campus expansion and renovation project. The new, 2-story, 65,000 SF, composite steel-framed semicircle structure will house medical oncology and radiation therapy departments, as well as providing space for exam/procedure rooms, physicians offices, an imaging center, an infusion center, a meditation room, a children's play area and mechanical space.

The existing hospital building requires 15,000 SF of renovations to accommodate the new program and substantial consideration was given to the foundation system for a new CyberKnife vault to avoid impact on existing structure. The building has been designed with a continuously sloping roof that cantilevers out over the entry by more than 15 ft. O'Donnell & Naccarato also designed abutments for a 90 ft-long and 32 ft-wide bridge to provide access to the new Cancer Center from Harrisburg Pike.
