Capital Health Medical Center - Hopewell Hospital

Location: Hopewell, NJ
Architect: HKS Architects, Inc.
LEED: LEED Gold Certified

O'Donnell & Naccarato provided structural engineering services for the new 905,000 SF Capital Health System medical campus, which is comprised of a 6-story, 575,000 SF replacement hospital and two attached medical office buildings totaling 330,000 SF.

The hospital design includes 320 single-occupant patient rooms and 4 Medical/Surgical floors. The imaging and radiology departments were designed to support increased loads from two linear accelerator vaults, a Cyberknife vault, and MRI and Cath labs. A dedicated central utility plant was constructed on-site to handle the major mechanical equipment. The hospital's sweeping, contemporary exterior is a combination of precast panels, curtainwall and metal panel. A 4-story open atrium with fireplace and grand piano invoke the hospitality theme desired by modern healthcare facilities. Capital Health's rooftop garden and green roof, among other sustainable and energy efficient design details, helped the hospital to obtain LEED Gold certification.

A second, 150-bed patient tower design was also completed, which would bring the overall square footage designed to more than 1.1M SF.
