Children’s Specialized Hospital

Location: New Brunswick, NJ
Architect: HKS Architects

O'Donnell & Naccarato provided structural engineering services for the Children’s Specialized Hospital, which is adjacent to the Bristol-Myers Squibb Children’s Hospital at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, NJ. The 60-bed, 120,000 SF pediatric rehabilitation hospital consists of four floors above grade, and one floor below grade. To accommodate future growth, the structure was designed to support a vertical expansion of three additional floors. A therapy pool is located on the lower level, and concrete framing was utilized to transfer a column while minimizing the depth of the structure while also providing materials that are less affected by the harsh pool chemical environment.
