Sacred Heart Hospital Bayou Tower Vertical Expansion

Location: Pensacola, FL
Architect: FreemanWhite Inc.

O’Donnell & Naccarato provided structural engineering services for the 5-story, 115,000 SF vertical expansion of Sacred Heart Hospital's Heart and Vascular Institute in Pensacola, Florida. The composite steel and concrete Bayou Tower houses 112 private patient rooms, as well as a partial, 8,500 SF penthouse. The tower expansion raised the building to 8 stories at a height of 220 feet.

O’Donnell & Naccarato analyzed the existing steel-framed building and determined that two new exterior, vertical full-height bracing towers were necessary to resist the Gulf Coast's hurricane-force winds. A new 2-story bridge connects the new tower and the adjacent main hospital building.
