Villanova University Mendel Hall

Location: Villanova, PA
Architect: UJMN Architects + Designers

O'Donnell & Naccarato provided structural engineering services for Villanova University's new 50,000 SF science laboratory addition and the renovation of Mendel Hall, the existing 156,000 SF science building. The new structure provides space for teaching laboratories for the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and for advanced courses in biology, chemistry, and physics. The addition also includes computer classrooms for mathematics and computer science. Mendel Hall encompasses teaching and research labs, classrooms, and offices for astronomy, biology, chemistry, computer science, mathematics, physics, and the University's information technology departments. Due to the long spans and the low floor to floor heights that matched the existing floors, we utilized concrete waffle slab construction to meet the requirements. The building is clad with a stone veneer which was produced by a local quarry.
