Academy of Natural Sciences Facade Condition Assessment

Location: Philadelphia, PA
Client: Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University

The Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University, formerly the Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia, was founded in 1812, though its current home on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway was built in 1876. The museum’s exterior was designed to resemble “an imposing gothic cathedral with elaborate stonework, arched doorways and windows, and even gargoyles.” O’Donnell & Naccarato performed a facade condition assessment via rope access to determine the current conditions, identify and communicate physical deficiencies to the owner, and develop a written report in compliance with the requirements set forth by the City of Philadelphia.
