The Art Institute of Philadelphia

Location: Philadelphia, PA

Under O'Donnell & Naccarato's guidance, the Art Institute of Philadelphia's landmark facade has been preserved for a new generation of students. This art deco gem, a designated historical site, was built in 1928 to accommodate a CBS flagship radio station affiliate, and has served as the Art Institute's Philadelphia headquarters since 1982.

Over time, the glass, metal, and precast exterior had failed, ceasing to prevent water infiltration, the most common cause of deterioration in building envelope systems. Immediate actions were prescribed by O'Donnell & Naccarato to mitigate further damage and repair the affected areas. The Center City facility remained open and fully operational throughout the restoration and was completed on time and on budget.
