Project Overview
Structural engineering design, documentation, and construction administration services for the new Whitehall Police Department headquarters. The project included structural modifications to the original 1972 building, which featured a concrete pan joist system supported by load-bearing masonry and concrete walls on shallow foundations.
The three-story, 25,400 SF facility utilizes open-web steel joists supported by structural steel beams, columns, and load-bearing masonry walls. Design highlights include a bulletproof vestibule barrier, garage accommodations for an assault vehicle, and a flexible training room with a folding partition.
The headquarters houses an upgraded emergency dispatch center, firing range, and expanded training areas. It was designed with resilience, operational efficiency, and future adaptability in mind, supporting critical police functions such as evidence processing, report writing, and rapid deployment.
